Adele VS Jamiroquai- A DIY Pants Mashup

Adele VS Jamiroquai- A DIY Pants Mashup

Posted on 25 November 2011 by admin

I like a good mash up. I like mash. The two go hand in hand I think.

Mashups are always a bit hit and miss for me, two fully constructed songs put together often sound a bit messy ie sonically busy, and for leccy producers who have no concept of key- a bit shit.

With two exceptions, the Aeroplane mash up of Snoops ‘Sexual Seduction’ and Friendly Fires ‘Paris’, I love this track that if I were Dognation I would hump it all day.

THE BEST FURCKING TRACK IN THE WORLD….. BOOM!

And the second track I just stumbled on today, it’s by the Daft Beatles, they do mashups, funnily loads of them with Eleanor Rigby in them. I should have posted one of them. But they weren’t as good as this Adele vs Jamiroquai mashup.

Here it is.

Dance In Your Pants Track – Katy B – Lights On

Dance In Your Pants Track – Katy B – Lights On

Katy B’s new single ‘Lights On’ is great. Except for the part where Miss Dynamiteeeee talks like a dick over it.

There’s nothing more annoying than when MC’s from the UK suddenly manifest an American, or in this case, a Jamaican accent when rhyming. Zone 2 born and raised – [Archway for those looking for a cheap flat near the Heath]- Ms D’s accent seems to go from a subtle Jamaican tinge [Her dad's Jamaican] in Wile Out, to a mentalist island twang on Lights On. Both accents are poles apart to the 2002 release of her Alicia Key’s esque first single off debut album ‘It takes more’ where the virtues of safe sex are highlighted by Dynamite while wearing plastic pants [trousers].

Katy B

Before I get hate comments, yes I get that mcing lends itself to a bit of a ‘rude boy accent manipulation’, how many scouse MC’s do you hear climbing the charts? But with glaringly obvious and good British MC’s out there such as Chipmunk [we'll overlook the Esmee Denters thing] is there really any need?

Produced by Rinse FM founder Geeneus it’s not the first time the two have collaborated as they reworked Kevin Saunderson/Inner City seminal track ‘Good Life’. If you check the opening synth stabs of ‘Lights On’ at the start, sounds very similar to those found on ‘Good Life’ – Just an observation but Inner City want their string stabs back.

Another point on the Good Life rework, it’s a fine line when covering much loved tracks, but if you going to do a cover, do it different. This was a replica, pretty much, of the original track- original melody line, original samples, and then they cluttered up the mix with a tame assed dubstep-like drum track and a plethora of whoops and woooshes. The result sounding like a kid got hold of one of these.

Whatever. Enough. If you can get over Ms Dynamite and the nicking of strings. This track is really great. Katy B is gorgeous, writes amazing underground tinged, pop friendly hooks and lyrics, and if I ever meet her, I’ll tell her you said hi.

Dance In Your Pants Track — Mercedes ‘SHOCK ABSORBER’ (Tonka’s Hypermodern Disco Mix)

Never has had a song about a car suspension related item got me in such a flux. That’s excatly what Mercedes ‘SHOCK ABSORBER‘ (Tonka’s Hypermodern Disco Mix) does to me.

Dance In Your Pants Track - Mercedes 'Shock Absorber'

Whoever sent me this, I love it ‘Willy’s [Wonka] trainspotting cousing Tonka remixes it into a potentlal guilty pleasure by hot to trot new starlet, that really is so hot, she could sing the phone book and shit on my face, and I’d still buy her album.

I like the faux electro mild synth lead underneath the vocal’s interspersed with the–eeee gayest Saturday-Night-Fever-Esque arpeggiated string tinkles you ever did hear.

I even don’t mind the laziest lyric I’ve heard since Whigfield released ‘Saturday Night’, a lyric that would have Ivor Novello turning in his grave:

‘You like the way I walk, he likes the way I walk’

Right. However she drags the smile back on my face with the next line, which goes….

‘Bad boys at the bar, watch me dance
Baggy pants buzzing [unconfirmed] in the b-boy stance’

If his pants are buzzing, love, probably best not to go near what’s inside ‘em.

That’s my view.

Anyway, expect to hear more of this chickadee, the way she spits [christ] the middle eight you can sense she has great timing and phrasing- I like that in an mc – it’s a reason I think Chipmunk is fabulous.

Anyway watch it or download it. The end.
