Eleanor Conway takes to the metaphorical red carpet for this year’s nominations, featuring The XX, I am Kloot and Corinne Bailey Rae.
I like to think of myself as a ‘woman in the know’, so after chatting to randoms on twitter, I had a provisional list in my mind of who I thought might be up for the Mercury Music Prize this year, the list was as follows.
#paloma WRONG
#ellieg WRONG
#marina WRONG
#thedrums WRONG
#thexx #gorillaz WRONG
#lauram #planb WRONG
#delphic WRONG
#two door WRONG
#mumford #muse WRONG
So out of the years I’ve been doing this type of job. I got two right.
One. Two. Yey me.
However, in my defence I did originally speculate biffy and dizzee- but got told by the twitter lord of comment, that he was ‘too commercial’. Er ok.
Well happy about Corinne Bailey Rae getting nominated, I honestly think she is soooooooo captivating, and she is so much better than insensitive journo’s asking about her husband, come on people, get a grip. This ain’t Heat.
For those that cannot be arsed to search on google, here is the actual list:
Biffy Clyro ‘Only Revolutions’
Villagers ‘Becoming A Jackal’
Corinne Bailey Rae ‘The Sea’
Mumford & Sons ‘Sigh No More’
Paul Weller ‘Wake Up The Nation’
Wild Beasts ‘Two Dancers’
Kit Downes Trio ‘Golden’

Dizzee Rascal ‘Tongue N’ Cheek’
